On October 2, 2006, Microsoft announced that they would discontinue development of the two consumer-oriented editions of Windows XP, Windows XP Home and Windows XP Media Center, to focus exclusively on Windows XP Professional for consumers (alongside Windows Vista), and Windows XP Media Center Edition for consumers and business (alongside Windows Vista Media Center Edition). This was done to increase the success of Windows Vista, which was seen as being already a strong replacement for Windows XP. In the mean time, the Media Center Edition was available to OEMs under the name Windows Home Server, as OEMs were allowed to license the software, and Microsoft did not need to pay OEMs a license fee for the Windows XP license anymore. Eventually, the OS was re-branded in 2007 as Windows Home Server (formerly known as Home Server), and was made available to Microsoft accounts in 2010, and to all consumers in 2011.[21] 827ec27edc
